Greetings and blessings,

I received, in due time, your letter with the request for blessing it contained, dated the luminous day of Yud-Tes Kislev*, that of our deliverance and the freedom of our souls (see note 1).

Naturally, what I said regarding the salary (see note 2) does not in any way remove from you the merit of being a student of the yeshivah*, heaven forbid. It is a matter of adding, not of subtracting. I hope that since the Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus* and the chassidic* ways (see note 3), you have increased your commitment, being sufficiently moist to moisten others, for the addition must reach your students as well.

You know that in each period of the year, the blessings and revelations are renewed (see note 4), as it is said: "These days are commemorated and relived." Then, the well-known decision of the Heavenly Court is also renewed (see note 3) — that those who follow the path of the Alter Rebbe* will prevail.

Moreover, it is explained in Iggeres HaKodesh*, chapter 14, that each year the light is even stronger. And this text, which you will consult, states that this is not merely an intensification of the same light, but truly a new light.

After that came Chanukah*, which brought eight lights, and it is explained that the number eight is infinitely higher than seven, for it transcends the weekly cycle. Similarly, our Sages say that the harp of the World to Come will have eight strings, whereas even during the period of the First Beis HaMikdash* (see note 5), it had only seven.

ובמה שכתבתי אודות השכירות מובן שעי"ז אין יוצא ח"ו מזכות תמים ויש בענין זה רק הוספה ולא ח"ו גרעון, ותקותי שמיום ר"ה לתורת החסידות ודרכי החסידות הוסיף בעניניו במדה דטופח ע"מ להטפיח, כיון שצריכה ההוספה לבוא גם למושפעיו, וע"פ הידוע דבתקופת השנה מתחדשות כל ההשפעות וההמשכות וכמ"ש והימים האלה נזכרים ונעשים וגו' במילא מתחדש ג"כ פסק ב"ד של מעלה הידוע שכל ההולכים בעקבותיו של אדמו"ר הזקן ידם על העליונה ובפרט ע"פ המבואר באגה"ק סי' י"ד הרי בכל שנה ושנה צ"ל בתוספת אור ונראה שם שזהו לא רק בתוספת אותו אור אלא אור חדש כו' עיי"ש, ובפרט שבינתים היו ג"כ ימי חנוכה דשמונה נרות דוקא וכמבואר שהענין של שמונה הוא לא בערך לענין דשבעה שהרי השמיני שומר ההיקף וכמבואר ג"כ במרז"ל דכנור דלע"ל הוא של שמונה נימין משא"כ אפילו בביהמ"ק ראשון הי' רק של שבעה נימין.
