To the distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Yitzchak Yehudah (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letters of 20 Mar Cheshvan* and 3 Kislev* with pleasure. You tell me that the courses at Ein Kerem* have been reestablished. No doubt you will not content yourself with reestablishing them. Moreover, you will develop them beyond what they were previously, in accordance with the directive of our Torah* that one ascends in matters of holiness.

Furthermore, Chassidus* explains that man must know advancement, as it is said: "I will cause you to advance." Such is the purpose of the descent of his soul, "from a lofty summit to a deep pit." For previously, it stood still (see note 2), as it is said: "By Hashem before Whom I stand," as various chassidic* texts explain.

Moreover, you mention that among the immigrants there are people who, in Morocco, were within the four cubits of Chabad*. No doubt you will come to their aid. And you know the assurance that "one who sanctifies himself somewhat here below receives from Hashem considerable sanctification."

And this too is the teaching of Chanukah*, which has just concluded. One must make a daily addition of light originating from pure oil, "at the door of one's house toward the outside," "from the moment the sun sets."

נעם לי לקבל מכתביו (כ' מ"ח. ג' כסלו) בם כותב אודות התחדשות השיעורים בעין כרם, ובודאי לא יסתפקו בהתחדשות לבד אלא ישתדלו בהוספה בערך להעבר וכציווי תורתנו מעלין בקדש, ובפרט ע"פ המבואר בתורת החסידות אשר האדם צ"ל מהלך דוקא וכמ"ש ונתתי לך מהלכים, וזוהי תכלית ירידת הנשמה מאגרא רמה לבירא עמיקתא, כי קודם לזה היתה הנשמה בבחי' עומד וכמ"ש חי ה' אשר עמדתי לפניו וכמבואר הענין בחסידות בכ"מ, ובפרט שמזכיר שישנם מבין העולים כאלו שהיו בד' אמות של חב"ד במרוקה שבטח יסייעו בידם, והרי ידועה ההבטחה אדם מקדש עצמו מלמטה מקדשין אותו הרבה מלמעלה, והרי גם נקודה הנ"ל היא הוראת ימי חנוכה דאזלינן מני' שהולך ומוסיף מיום ליום באור הבא משמן טהור ועל פתח ביתו מבחוץ משתשקע החמה.
