in the Holy Land, may Hashem grant you long life,

Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter asking how one should regard the Salk vaccine injections (see note 1), intended to immunize children, to whom Hashem will grant long life (see note 2).

It has been adopted in several countries. In the United States, practically everyone does it, with success. It is therefore advisable to be vaccinated.

You ask me whether you should use a Salk vaccine produced abroad or in the Holy Land. Naturally, this depends on the reliability of the manufacturers, a certain number of whom are in this country. No doubt there are some in the Holy Land as well. You will therefore make the decision when you know the details and which product is the best.

The decision you reach will bring you success, a visible and tangible good, and will enable you to educate your children, among all Jewish children, to Torah*, to the chuppah*, and to good deeds, in abundance, for a good name, honor, and glory.

כבר נהגו בזה בכמה מדינות, ובארצוה"ב נעשה זה ע"י רובם ככולם ובהצלחה, ולכן נכונה עשי' זו.

ובשאלתן אם לעשות זה בתרכיב סאלק מתוצרות חוץ או תוצרת הארץ, מובן שתלוי זה בסמכות המייצרים שכמה מהם ישנם כאן, ובטח גם באה"ק ת"ו, ולכן יחליטו בזה אחרי שידעו הפרטים בזה ואיזה מהם עדיף, ואיך שיחליטו יהי' להצלחה בטוב הנראה והנגלה ולגדל את כל ילידיהם שי' בתוך שאר ילדי ישראל שי' לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה לשם ולתהלה ולתפארת.
