Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 17 Kislev*. I have already explained to chassidim* and to young men what we heard many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. We are living in the end of the era of Ikvesa DiMeshicha* (see note 1). Every moment is precious, and one must therefore use it, to the fullest extent possible, so that every Jew puts into practice the essential and profound mission: "I was created to serve my Creator." And all of this must be done according to the directives of Divine Providence (see note 2), with joy and enthusiasm.

Hashem has granted you the success of teaching in one of the classes of a yeshivah* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in the Holy Land. You must therefore redouble your ardor in this matter, drawing your students closer to Torah* and mitzvos*, bringing them into — and through this, entering yourself into — the army of Hashem (see note 3), which very soon will go out with an upraised hand from the intense darkness of the bitter exile in which we currently find ourselves.

It is therefore quite evident that one must pay no attention to the advances of the yetzer hara*, proposing trips and outings to various places, for its goal is to cause you to waste your time and to interrupt your sacred mission.

As for you, your reward is specified by the Alter Rebbe* at the beginning of Torah Or*. Such tzedakah*, offered to the students, "elevates a nation," and in this way, "one's brain and heart become a thousand times more refined" (see note 4).

May Hashem grant that you meditate objectively on all of this. In this way, you will rejoice in your lot, with a true and deep joy.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ז בכסלו. - כבר מלתי אמורה לכמה מאנ"ש והאברכים, אשר כ"פ שמענו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שנמצאים אנו בסוף עקבתא דמשיחא, ולכן כל רגע יקר וצריך לנצל ככל האפשרי במילוי תפקידו הנפשי והפנימי של כל אחד מישראל, אני נבראתי לשמש את קוני ולעשות את זה מתאים להוראת ההשגחה העליונה ובשמחה וטוב לבב, וכיון שהצליחו בורא עולם להורות לכתה באחת מישיבות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אשר באה"ק ת"ו, צריך להוסיף אומץ בזה לקרב המושפעים שלו לתורה ומצותי' ולהכניס ולהכנס עי"ז בצבאות ה' אשר בקרוב יצאו ביד רמה מהחושך כפול ומכופל מהגלות המר בו אנו נמצאים. ומזה מובן וגם פשוט שאין להתרשם כלל מפיתוי היצר ע"ד נסיעות טלטולים למקומות אחרים שתוכן כוונתו בזה ביטול זמן הפסק עבודתו בקדש כו' וכו' וגם בהנוגע לעצמו שכרו אמור מרבנו הזקן (בתורה אור בתחלתו) אשר צדקה זו שעושה עם המושפעים, תרומם גוי ונעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה, עיי"ש.

ויהי רצון שיתבונן בכל הנ"ל אליבא דנפשי' ואז ישמח בחלקו שמחה אמיתית ופנימית.
