Blessings and greetings,

I received news of you with pleasure through my close relative, the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, of fine conduct, Rav Azriel Zelig Slonim (see note 2).

As you requested, I will mention your name and those of the members of your family at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. May your activities and those of your husband, for the merit of the many, protect you in all your needs, material and spiritual.

Rav Slonim told me, in particular, about your son, who serves as a military chaplain. No doubt he seizes every opportunity, in his surroundings, to explain the directives of our Torah*, Torah* of life, to all those who receive his influence, to all those who are in the camp (see note 3).

Each person must protect himself even more effectively against evil by strengthening the domain of holiness. For the verse states: "Hashem your Elokim* walks in the midst of your camp... and your camp shall be holy." The heart of Yisrael* is in a state of awakening, and everything therefore depends on the one who encourages. It is his task to find the right words and to speak from the heart.

May Hashem grant him to do so in an ever-increasing manner, according to the teaching conveyed by the days of Chanukah* — to use pure oil, until one illuminates "at the door of one's house, toward the outside," from sunset onward.

May Hashem grant that he be among those who make an effort in this regard, to the fullest extent possible.

סיפר לי הרב סלונים שי' במיוחד ע"ד בנה שי' שהוא מכהן בקדש רב צבאי, ובודאי מנצל כל הזדמנות בסביבתו להסביר לכל אלו אשר השפעתו עליהם ע"ד ציווי תורתנו תורת חיים לכל אלו הנמצאים במחנה, אשר חיוב תוספת שמירה מכל דבר רע על כל אחד מהם והוספה בקדושה, כי כלשון הכתוב ה' אלקיך מתהלך בקרב מחנך והי' מחנך קדוש והלא לב ישראל ער הוא ואין הדבר תלוי אלא בהמעורר שימצא האותיות המתאימות ויהיו דברים היוצאים מן הלב, ויהי רצון אשר יהי' כהוראת ימי חנוכה שמוסיף והולך באור הבא משמן טהור ועד שיאיר על פתח ביתו מבחוץ משתשקע החמה.

והשי"ת יזכהו שיהי' מהמשתדלים בזה ככל הדרוש.
