To the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Eliezer (see note 1),
Greetings and blessings,
I have duly received your letter of 24 Marcheshvan*, which you conclude by questioning me about the problem of ships traveling to the Holy Land during Shabbos* (see note 2) and the question of electricity (see note 3).
The reason I intervened on this question is as follows: The United States is affected, and New York in particular. I therefore acted to the extent of my means and, it seems to me, with the aim of remedying the situation here.
Obviously, it was also necessary to intervene at the other end — that is, where these ships arrive. I therefore had to write to the Holy Land on this subject.
This is not the case with electricity, which concerns only the Holy Land — all the more so since the divergent opinions of the Rabbanim* of Eretz Yisrael* on the matter are well known, each one offering his own explanation.

מאר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ"ד מ"ח... במה שמסיים במכתבו בהנוגע לשאלת נסיעת האניות בש"ק ושאלת החשמל וכיו"ב, באה"ק ת"ו.
הנה מה שהתערבתי בשאלת האניות הוא, להיותה שאלה דארצוה"ב ונויארק ביחוד, ולכן עשיתי בזה עד כמה שכידי מגעת כמדומה לי - בכדי לתקן המצב כאן. ומובן שזה הי' תלוי ג"כ בקצה השני, היינו מקום מוצא האני', שלכן מוכרח הייתי לכתוב גם לאה"ק ת"ו בזה, משא"כ שאלת החשמל וכו' - שזהו שאלת אה"ק ת"ו, וביחוד שכבר ידועים ומפורסמים החילוקי דיעות בזה של רבני אה"ק ת"ו עם הטעמים ונמוקים שלהם.
