Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received the report of the yeshivah* administration, dated 20 MarCheshvan*, birthday of the Rebbe Rashab*, whose merit protects us. You know the statement of our Sages that on a person's birthday, his mazal* is strong. Now, the purpose of a shepherd of Yisrael* is to ensure that everything concerning his flock is good and positive in every respect, to the greatest extent possible.

Nevertheless, this must not be "bread of shame" (see note 1). Indeed, "the righteous resemble their Creator," and all therefore receive free will (see note 2) in order to bring their participation to all of this. But quite often, an action such as the one described at the beginning of the Midrash* Shir HaShirim suffices: "Provided that you give us your hand" (see note 3). Now, the weight of the stone was such that the hand could not lift it. Despite this, it was indeed transported to Jerusalem. You will consult this text, as well as the beginning of the Midrash* Koheles Rabbah.

May Hashem grant that these days of the month of Kislev* be fruitful, so that all of this is put into practice, for the deed is essential. Various discourses of our holy masters explain that "there is no greater sage than one who possesses experience." Now, from everything that concerns Chassidus*, one must draw a final synthesis. This is self-evident.

I have duly received your letter, together with the decisions of the committee for the dissemination of the wellsprings (see note 4).

I would like to know what the situation is regarding the children of chassidim* who are of school age. Do they attend Chabad schools? For the blessing and the spirit of our holy masters are specifically granted to them, and the founding of a school removes the pretext of distance (see note 5). As for those who have not yet done so (see note 6), what is the true reason?

After having signed this letter, I received your report and your express correspondence of 19 MarCheshvan*, whereas the postmark bears the date of 12 Kislev*!

נתקבל הפ"כ, מישיבת ההנהלה, מיום כ' מ"ח הוא יום הולדת כ"ק אדמו"ר מהורש"ב זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, וידוע מרז"ל אשר ביום ההולדת מזלו גובר, ורועה ישראל ענינו הוא אשר צאן מרעיתו יהיו כל עניניהם בטוב בכל הפרטים וככל האפשרי, אלא שבכדי שלא יהי' נהמא דכסופא, כי הרי צדיקים דומים לבוראם, ניתנה בחירה חפשית לכל אלו שגם הם ישתפו פעולה בענינים אלו, אף שלפעמים תכופות מספיקה ג"כ פעולה ע"ד המסופר במדרש שה"ש בתחלתו "ובלבד שתתן ידך עמנו", אף שלא הי' בערך כובד האבן שהיד תעלה את האבן, ובכ"ז נתעלה האבן לירושלים . עיי"ש, ובקהלת רבה בתחלתו.

ויהי רצון שהימים האלו דחדש כסלו, יעמדו להם להביא את כל הנ"ל במעשה בפועל, כי המעשה הוא העיקר, וכמבואר בכ"מ בשיחות רבותינו נשיאינו הק' בענין דאין חכם כבעל נסיון ואשר מכל ענין של חסידות צ"ל בכן, וק"ל.

אתענין לדעת ע"ד בני אנ"ש שי' בגיל החינוך - הלומדים הם במוסדות חינוך חב"ד? - והרי במיוחד שורה בהם ברכת נשיאינו הק' ורוחם - (וע"י יסוד... הרי סרה גם האמתלא דמניעת ריחוק המקום). ואלו שלע"ע לא עשו עדיין כנ"ל - מהו הטעם האמיתי ע"ז.
