Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 2 Kislev*, in which you briefly describe how the year has gone since the date of your commitment to attach yourself to Chassidus* and all that it entails. You will surely redouble your ardor with the utmost intensity as you enter the second year. You will consult, on this subject, the Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe*, Parshas* Bamidbar, page 3a.

Moreover, you know the statement of our Sages that "all beginnings are difficult." Now, the second year is no longer a beginning. You must therefore demand much more of yourself. It will be easier to do so if you meditate upon what the Alter Rebbe* writes in chapter 30 of the Tanya*, page 38b: "For this, every man (see note 1) must…" You will study this text precisely, applying its terms to your own person.

You speak of worry and anxiety. You know the statement of the Mishnah* that "Whoever accepts upon himself the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven is freed from… (see note 2)." Now, one who errs on a Mishnah* must repeat it, for such is considered an absolute certainty (see note 3).

There is a well-known ruling that was reported by the Mitteler Rebbe*. Because the Alter Rebbe* gave of himself for Chassidus*, the Heavenly Court decided that in all matters concerning Torah*, the fear of Hashem, and good conduct, those who are attached to him and follow his way would prevail.

May Hashem therefore grant you success in all that has been stated. Everything depends on your will, for you possess the necessary strength and capacities.

במענה על מכתבו מב' כסלו, בו כותב הנקודה איך שעברה עליו השנה מיום שקבל על עצמו להתקשר לחסידות ועניני', ובודאי יוסיף אומץ ביותר וביותר בהכנסו לשנה השנית בזה (עיין ג"כ בלקוטי תורה לרבנו הזקן פ' במדבר ג, א), ובפרט שידוע מאמר רז"ל כל התחלות קשות, ושנה שני' כבר יצא מגדר התחלה, ולכן יש לתבוע מעצמו הרבה יותר, ותקל עליו התביעה בזה בהתבוננותו במ"ש רבנו הזקן בתניא פרק ל' (דף ל"ח ע"ב) והלכך צריך כל אדם כו' - עיי"ש הדיק היטיב אליבא דנפשי'.

ובמה שכותב אודות הדאגות והטרדות וכו', ידוע פסק המשנה כל המקבל עליו עול מ"ש פורקים ממנו כו' (והרי כל הטועה בדבר משנה חוזר כיון שהוא דבר פשוט בהחלט), ומתאים לפסק הדין הידוע כסיפור אדמו"ר האמצעי, אשר בגלל המסירות נפש הלזו (של אדמו"ר הזקן) על תורת החסידות, פסקו בבית דין של מעלה, אש בכל ענין של תורה יראת שמים ומדות טובות תהי' יד מקושריו והולכי בעקבותיו על העליונה, יצליחו השי"ת בכל האמור, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצונו, כי הכחות והיכולת בידו הן.
