Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of Wednesday of Parshas* Vayeitzei, in which you describe your state of health and convey the opinion of the doctors.

The doctor states that if you follow the diet, the surgery can be avoided for one or two years, or even longer. It is therefore perfectly evident that there is no reason to think about this surgery, especially since, from time to time, new treatments are discovered that apply to such situations. It is therefore entirely possible that this surgery will prove completely unnecessary.

Everything depends on the control you exercise over yourself. You must exercise self-discipline, follow the diet, and more generally the prescriptions of the specialist doctors. And if you recall, even briefly, the places where you were a few years ago, and where hundreds of thousands of Jews still find themselves currently — if you consider their situation there and yours here — you will tell yourself that entire days would not suffice to thank Hashem for His kindness.

Thus you will understand how negligible your current difficulties are compared to these kindnesses of Hashem. I am convinced that it is unnecessary to say more on this subject.

With blessing for healing and to give good news,

On behalf of the Rebbe shlita*,

the secretary,
