To my close relative, the distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem, of illustrious lineage,

Greetings and blessings,

I recently received what you transmitted to me through my close relative, the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem, of many accomplishments, generous in conduct, Rav Azriel Zelig Slonim — a comb that belonged to the Rebbe Rashab*, as well as a snuffbox and a handkerchief.

Rav Slonim does not have precise details concerning these last two items. Now, our Sages say that "one who gives a gift does so generously." You presumably know these details (see note 2). To whom did they belong and what is their history? I thank you very much for this gift and also for being willing to write to me.

We have just entered a new year and, moreover, a proverb widespread in Poland — a country in which you resided for several years — states that one is definitively sealed for a good year during the month of Kislev*, during the days of Chanukah*.

May Hashem grant that the renewal of your mazal*, the increase of the blessing of the Creator of the world, Who directs it, exert their effect daily, in a good that is visible and tangible, material and spiritual at once.

As has been said many times, great is the joy that breaks all limits, removes all barriers and obstacles.

שלום וברכה!

זה לא כבר הגיעו לידי מה שמסר ע"י ש"ב הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ רב פעלים בעל מדות מו"ה עזריאל זליג שי' סלאנים, והם מסרק, מכ"ק אדמו"ר מהורש"ב, קופת טאבאק וכן מטפחת. וכיון שאין הנ"ל יודע ברור הפרטים בנוגע לשנים האחרונים, והרי אמרו רז"ל כל הנותן בעין יפה נותן, בטח יודע הפרטים בזה למי שייכים וסדר ההשתלשלות, ות"ח ת"ח על תשורתו האמורה וגם על הטרחה בכתיבתו.

וכיון שזה עתה נכנסו בשנה חדשה, ובפרט ע"פ פתגם המורגל בפולין אשר כבודו דר שם כמה שנים, שגמר החתימה היא בחדש כסלו בימי חנוכה, יהי רצון שהתחדשות המזל והתוספת בברכת בורא עולם ומנהיגו תפעלנה פעולתן בחיי היום יומים בטוב הנראה והנגלה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד, וע"פ האמור זה כ"פ גדולה שמחה שהיא פורצת גדר ומסירה המדידות וההגבלות בזה.
