Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter. In my previous correspondence, I indicated to you several books. The purpose was to facilitate your gathering of information concerning the subject you describe.

You mention the visit of the Rav shlita*. As you know, its purpose was to motivate those around him to the practice of Torah* and mitzvos*. It had no other objective. I am therefore surprised that you did not seek to assist him in this matter. Indeed, you are on location and your collaboration would therefore have been invaluable. Yet your letter seems to indicate that you did not even meet him.

You raise the question about the spelling of the name Akiva (see note 1). Indeed, the Ryaz* (see note 2) was shown in a dream that the final letters of the words forming the verse, "A light sown for the righteous, and joy for those of upright heart" (Tehillim* 97:11), spell the name Akiva — with a Hei* (see note 3).

However, it is also stated that "the Torah* is not in the heavens," and that "one does not heed a Heavenly voice." This matter has already been discussed (see note 4) in various places (see note 5).

The explanation is briefly as follows: The principle that "the Torah* is not in the heavens" applies only when it comes to deciding Halachah*, but not when one wishes to interpret a factual matter — in this case, determining the spelling of the name of Rabbi Akiva, borne by all those who carry this name in subsequent generations. This is self-evident.

במענה על מכתבו, מובן אשר מה שציינתי במכתבי לאיזה ספרים - הוא בכדי להקל עליו עבודת האסיפה והעסק בהענין אודותו כותב.

ובמ"ש אודות ביקורו של הרב... שליט"א הנה בודאי יודע אשר ביקורו הי' לתכלית התעוררות בעניני תורה ומצות בהסביבה ולא מטרה אחרת, ולכן הפלא הוא על שכבודו לא חפשו לסייע לו בעבודתו האמורה, כי הרי נמצא הוא על אתר ובדאי יכול הי' לסייע בענין האמור, וכנראה ממכתבו הרי גם לא נפגש אתו.

במ"ש ע"ד הספק* בכתיבת שם עקיבא והראו להריא"ז בחלום אור זרוע לצדיק ולישרי לב שמחה, ס"ת עקיבא בה"א, הלא לא בשמים היא ואין משגיחים בבת קול, כבר שקו"ט בזה ובכגון דא בכמה מקומות**. והנקודה בזה היא אשר לא בשמים היא בנוגע לפסק הלכה - משא"כ בבירור מציאות, ובכגון דא - לדעת איך הי' שמו של רבי עקיבא שעמו מקושרים השמות עקיבא גם בדורות שלאחריו, וק"ל.
