Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 14 Cheshvan*, in which you describe the state of mind of your wife. She wishes to be examined by a doctor, while you yourself do not see the urgency.

I agree with you on this point. One should not be affected by the fact that she is not yet pregnant. However, she is worried, and you must therefore explain your position to her. If she accepts it positively and with joy, so much the better. On the other hand, if for any reason she retains her feeling, one must comply with her wish and have her seen by a doctor.

You express your reservations if this doctor is a man. I have not heard that attention is paid to this, when there is a medical motivation. At most, one could seek a woman who is a specialist in this field.

You discuss such-and-such a person whose tefillin* have been checked. The parchments were found to be kosher* and of good quality. It is self-evident that one must check not only the parchments but also the boxes and the straps.

Furthermore, as surprising as this may appear, I have been informed many times that tefillin* were entrusted to a checker in the Holy Land, who found them to be kosher*. Then, subsequently, another checker noticed that a letter was missing, rendering the parchment unusable according to all opinions.

I am surprised that you do not discuss in your letter your actions to spread Chassidus* outward, nor even those of the Chabad* Youth Association in general. No doubt you will provide all of this at the next opportunity.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ד חשון, - בו כותב אודות מצב רוח זוגתו תחי', ואשר לכן רצונה להבדק ע"י רופא, ואין נראה לו החפזון בזה.

הנה אף שדעתי כדעתו, שאין להתרשם שעדיין לא נתעברה, אבל כיון שזוגתו מתרשמת מזה יש להסבירה הנמוקים שלו. ואם יתקבל אצלה בטוב ובשמחת לבב, טוב הדבר. אבל באם מאיזה טעם שיהי' ישאר אצלה הרושם, יש למלאות רצונה להתבקר ע"י רופא. ומ"ש החשש כיון שהוא ע"י רופא גבר, לא שמעתי שיקפידו בעניני רפואה על זה. ולכל היותר - יש לחקור אחרי זה אפשר ישנה רופאה אשה מומחה במקצוע.

במ"ש בהנוגע לפב"פ שבדקו תפיליו ונמצאו הפרשיות כשרות ומהודרות, - הנה מובן ופשוט, שבדיקת התפילין כוללת הפרשיות וגם הבתים והרצועות. ועוד זאת, אשר אף שתמיהני בדבר, הנה כבר כ"פ בכגון דא, שהודיעוני מאה"ק ת"ו בנתינת התפילין לבדיקה לסופר אחד והכשירם, ואח"ז מצא סופר שני לאחריו חסרון אות וכיו"ב. ז. א.

פסול לכל הדיעות.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר במכתבו אודות הפעולות בהפצת המעינות חוצה, וגם לא אודות פעולות צעירי אגו"ח בכלל. ובטח ימלא עד"ז בהזדמנות הכי קרובה.
