Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter and to the one preceding it:

A) You comment on several passages of the Tanya* in which the word "etc." appears, and one may wonder about its meaning.

In such cases, it is self-evident that the "etc." relates to the words that precede it and to the context, but not to ideas expressed well before that point. Likewise, it is clearly an allusion to the end of a verse, a citation of the Sages, or an explanation. On the other hand, it cannot introduce a new idea or recall what has been explained in another text and not in this passage.

B) You discuss the number of six hundred and twenty pillars of light and ask why there are not six hundred and thirteen — according to the number of the mitzvos*.

The number six hundred and twenty, Keser* — the Crown that transcends the chain of worlds, a term whose numerical value is six hundred and twenty — is well known in the books of Kabbalah* and in the celebrated prayer of Rabbi Nechunyah ben HaKanah*, which appears, in particular, in these books. There is therefore no reason whatsoever to speak of six hundred and thirteen pillars of light.

ב) במה שמתרץ באיזהו מקומות בספר תניא קדישא שנאמר כו' או גו' וצ"ע למה נתכוין בתיבות אלו.

בכלל בכגון דא מובן ופשוט שהכו' או גו' צריך להיות שייך להתיבות שלפניהם ולענין זה, ולא לענינים שקדמו לפני פניהם ועוד מקודם, כן מובן ופשוט שצריכים הם או לציין סיום כתוב ומאמר או (בהנוגע לתיבת כו') סיום ענין; אבל לא רמז לענין חדש או השייך לענין שמדובר אודותו במקום אחר ולא על אתר.

ג) במ"ש אודות המספר דתר"ך עמודי אור, שאפשר בזה תרי"ג עמודי אור וכו'.

הענין דתר"ך - כת"ר עמודי אור הוא ענין ידוע בספרי הקבלה בתפלת רבי נחוניא בן הקנה הידועה בספרים אלו ועוד, ואין כל מקום למספר דתרי"ג עמודי אור.
