Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 11 MarCheshvan*. At an auspicious moment, I will mention all those you cite near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, of blessed memory.
You discuss the state of health of your wife and the surgical intervention that the doctors recommend for her feet. I am surprised that you do not specify whether other treatments have been tried — the wearing of leg braces, massages, infiltrations. Of course, before deciding upon an operation, all of these must be tried.
If these treatments have indeed been used without success, one must seek the counsel of two doctors who are specialists in this matter and follow their advice. The Torah* has authorized the doctor to heal, and may Hashem grant that you give me good news of all this.
No doubt your wife has adopted the positive custom of virtuous Jewish women, consisting of setting aside tzedakah* before lighting the candles on the eve of Shabbos* and the festivals. In addition, it would be good to have the mezuzos* of your home checked.
And you surely keep the three studies that concern everyone, established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, of blessed memory. These pertain to the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known. In any event, you will adopt them in the future.

במענה על מכתבו מי"א מ"ח. - בעת רצון יזכירו את כל אלה שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.
במ"ש אודות מצב בריאות זוגתו תחי' בהנוגע להרגלים שיש רופאים מייעצים לנתח. - לפלא שאין מזכיר אם התעסקו באופנים אחרים וכמו לבישת פוזמקאות, מאסאזש, זריקות וכו' - שמובן שקודם שיחליטו בנוגע לנתוח, ינסו באופנים אלו. ובאם כבר ניצלו כל הנ"ל ואין כל תועלת, אזי יש לעשות התייעצות (קונסיליום) משני רופאים מומחים במקצוע ולעשות כהוראתם, והתורה נתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות, ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל.
בטח זוגתו תחי' נוהגת במנהג הטוב של בנות ישראל הכשרות להפריש לצדקה קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל ערב שבת וערב יום טוב. ונכון הי' לבדוק את המזוזות בדירתם ובטח שומר הוא שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, ועכ"פ ישמרם מכאן ולהבא.
