Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 7 MarCheshvan*, in which you describe your state of mind and the fluctuations that you observe in this domain.

I am surprised that you are astonished by this, for our Sages have told us that it is so, and this is explained at length in the Tanya*: "One nation rises against the other" — the good against the evil. "Sometimes one prevails..."

I await from you a detailed proposal of activity for the coming months. I will then be able to examine it and share my opinion with you. Until then, you will surely continue your study — this letter is apparently addressed to a yeshivah* student who sometimes has the desire to leave — as it has been until now.

במענה על מכתבו מז' מ"ח, בו כותב אודות מצב רוחו, ושרואה בזה שינוים וכו'.

ולפלא על פליאתו בזה לאחרי שהודעת רז"ל היא ונתבאר בארוכה גם בתניא, שלאום מלאום יאמץ לפעמים זה קם כו', ואחכה להצעה מפורטת ממנו בהנוגע לחדשים הבע"ל, שאז אוכל לדון בזה ולחוות דעתי, ובודאי שעד אז ימשיך בלימודו כמו עד עתה.
