Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 7 MarCheshvan*. Although you say nothing about it in this letter, you are surely making the effort that your friends, who share your views, when they encounter your wife, explain to her what she does not understand of our Torah*, in general, and of Chassidus*, in particular.

Very often, words heard from a person outside the family are better received than those coming from relatives, friends, and even from the husband himself. It is unnecessary to remind you that no effort should be spared regarding everything that concerns the Torah*, the mitzvos*, and the influence granted to the mistress of the house — the wife of a man being as his own person.

According to a well-known teaching of our Sages: "One who tells you he did not make an effort and nevertheless achieved success — do not believe him. One who tells you he made an effort but did not achieve success — do not believe him. One who tells you he made an effort and achieved success — believe him" (Megillah* 6b). One aspect of the matter is to set a personal example in every domain where one wishes to exercise influence.

May Hashem grant you success in all this,

On behalf of the Rebbe, shlita*,

the secretary,
