To my close relative, the Rav*, the distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yehuda Leib (Rav Y.L. Slonim, of Yerushalayim*; see letter 4436),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 7 MarCheshvan*, the date on which one began, in the Holy Land, to recite Tal U'Matar Livrachah* — the blessing of rain, "dew and rain for a blessing." You will consult, on this subject, the Likkutei Torah*, in Parshas* Ha'azinu, according to which dew and rain represent the entirety of blessings granted by Hashem — at His initiative or in reward for the effort of human beings.

You describe to me the inspiration of the time of our joy — the festival of Sukkos* — during the seventh month — the month of Tishrei*, seventh after Nissan*, that of the Exodus from Egypt — sated with every good. May Hashem grant that it be concretely felt throughout the entire year, that the negative elements diminish and that the domain of holiness be expanded. Happy is the lot of all those who make efforts in this direction. And this effort is both moral and physical, as our holy Torah* says. The merit of all comes to your aid, and you will be rewarded first.

You will convey my greetings to all your friends in this sacred mission, so that each of us may achieve success in his function, always and every day. It is said that "Yaakov advanced on his way" (Bereishis* 32:2), an unlimited advancement, such as the soul can achieve only by entering into a body. This descent must result in an elevation, beyond even the original Thought, as various texts establish.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מז' מ"ח, יום התחלת האמירה באה"ק ת"ו טל ומטר לברכה (יעוין לקו"ת האזינו שטל ומטר הוא כללות ההשפעות מלמעלה הבאות ע"י אתעדל"ע או ע"י אתעדל"ת, עיי"ש).

בו כותב אודות ההתועדות בזמן שמחתנו דחדש השביעי המושבע בכל טוב, ויה"ר שתפעלנה בהנוגע לפועל על כל השנה כולה שילכו כל הענינים הבלתי רצוים באופן דפוחת והולך וכל עניני קדושה מוסיף והולך, ואשרי חלק[ם] של כל אלה המשתדלים בזה השתדלות כהוראת תוה"ק ביגיעת נפש ויגיעת בשר, שזכות הרבים מסייעתם ונוטלים חלק בראש.

בפ"ש כל חבריו בעבודה קדושה האמורה ולהצלחה בתפקיד כאו"א מאתנו בתכ"י ויעקב הלך לדרכו, הליכה באין ערוך הבאה ע"י ירידת הנשמה בגוף דוקא ירידה צורך עלי' למעלה גם מדרגה דעלו במחשבה, וכמבואר בכ"מ.
