Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 2 MarCheshvan*, in which you refer to the state of health of your daughter, may she live long, concerning her eyes — she had lost her sight following a fall — and the opinion of the doctors.

First of all, you should not decide immediately to undertake the journey you are planning. Rather, after the doctor who treats her has described her condition and treatments, you should send this report to the doctor you wish to consult, in this case the one in Boston.

Indeed, it is said here that many people coming from the Holy Land consult specialists in Switzerland. It would therefore be good for you to do the same. Through friends in the Holy Land, you will surely find several contacts in that country.

Moreover, it is somewhat difficult to understand the situation as you describe it in your letter. Indeed, it is easy to diagnose strong tension of the eyes, and I therefore do not understand how there can be any doubt in this matter. Furthermore, if this occurred suddenly, one may think that it is the consequence of psychological shock. However, your letter says nothing at all about whether an investigation has been conducted in this regard. Now, such a shock implies particular treatments.

Certainly, all of this is not very serious, but I have nonetheless judged it proper to draw your attention to this matter.

במענה על מכתבו מה' מ"ח, בו כותב סדר לימודו, ומסיים אשר ישנם ענינים שהם דבר הקשה ולדוגמא לשון כ"ק אדמו"ר בעצמו בתורה אור פ' חיי שרה.

ובודאי ידוע לו שנדפס ביאור ע"ז מאדמו"ר הצמח צדק (נדפס בתור הוספה לתורה אור הוצאת קה"ת), ובכלל בענינים כמו אלו אשר בלשונו דבר הקשה הוא, מובן שאין לדלג עליהם אלא ללמדם עכ"פ בשטחיות ובמקרה אשר גם בשטחיות אינו מובן עכ"פ לאמרם. וכמו בכל הענינים גם על זה יש למצוא רמז גם בנגלה דתורה והוא מרז"ל במגילה (י"ח, ע"א) אטו אנן כו' מי ידעינן כו' אלא מצות קריאה כו'.

בברכה להרבות בלימוד התורה וקיום המצות בהידור מתוך בריאות.
