Greetings and blessings*,
It seems to me that I have already told you, or have even once written to you, that it would be good for the Chassidim* to transmit good news to me when there is any. In this way, Hashem would reduce the occasions for announcing to me news like that which you give me (see note 1).
Already in the time of the Alter Rebbe* (see note 2), there were complaints about the fact of suppressing good news. This does not give permission to do so in subsequent generations, and does not even indicate that such permission exists. At the time, already, our masters protested vehemently against such an attitude.
The same is true for your present letter (see note 3). You say nothing about the manner in which the month of Tishrei* was used to strengthen and spread Judaism. I wish to hope that concrete action was not lacking and that one merely omitted to report what had occurred.

...כמדומה שכבר אמרתי לו או שכתבתי פעם שהלואי היו מתרגלים אנ"ש להודיע כשישנם בשו"ט היו ממעטים מלמעלה ההודעה לכאן בענינים כהנ"ל, אף שגם בימי רבנו הזקן כבר התאוננו על הנהגה דשתיקה מבשו"ט וכו', אבל בענינים כגון דא אין זה משמש היתר ואפילו לא להוראת היתר להדור שלאחרי זה, כיון שעוד אז עשו רבותנו מחאה בתוקף נגד ההנהגה.
מתאים להאמור לעיל גם במכתבו זה, אינו מזכיר דבר ע"ד ניצול ימי חדש תשרי להחזקת והפצת עניני יהדות, ורוצה אני לקוות שלא הי' חסר בפועל אף כי חסר בההודעה.
