To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Chaim Zusha (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings*,

I have duly received your letter, the drafting of which you began on 27 Elul*, as well as that of 13 Tishrei*, which reached me together with the previous one, that from Motzaei Shabbos* Chol HaMoed*, and that from the third day of Chol HaMoed*.

I thank you for writing to me about all of this, even briefly. However, it is surprising that there is such a gap between each letter and that each one is so concise.

I am surprised that you do not give me more details about the distribution of books. Various Chassidic* texts explain, and one can verify concretely that this is indeed so, that an account formulated in general terms does not add much ardor to the actions being performed. Indeed, by describing reality in this way, it is not necessary to modify its presentation, even if the activities have been greatly increased or, conversely, considerably reduced.

This is not the case when one is aware from the outset that, in short order, a detailed account will need to be given. This must therefore be the case here. You will tell me that such-and-such number of copies of such-and-such a book were sold and such-and-such number of such-and-such another. In this way, you will have, from the outset, a different perception of reality.

P.S.: I am surprised that you do not mention the campaign for the distribution of the four species* (see note 2). This is not necessary in Kfar Chabad* (see note 3). It does take place, however, in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv, in recent years. Here too, an increase is necessary, in accordance with the injunction that "one must know elevation in the domain of holiness."

For a certain reason, the sending of this letter was delayed, and I have just received your letter from the conclusion of Simchas Torah*. No doubt my response (see note 4) to the committee of the Kfar* (see note 5) has already reached its destination. It also responds to several points raised in this letter.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו שהתחיל לכותבו בכ"ז אלול וכן מי"ג תשרי (שנתקבלו ביחד) וממוצש"ק חוהמ"ס וג' דחוהמ"ס ות"ח על כתבו עכ"פ בקיצור אודות הענינים, אף שלפלא ההפסק שבין מכתב לחבירו והקיצור בזה.

לפלא שאינו כותב יותר בפרטיות ע"ד הפצת הספרים, ומבואר בכ"מ בדא"ח ורואים במוחש שכשכותבים באופן מקיפי אין זה מוסיף מרץ בהנוגע לפעולות, כיון שבתיאור מצב באופן מקיף אין מוכרח שינוי התיאור באם אפילו תוגדלנה הפעולות כ"פ ככה או להיפך אם תוקטנה כ"פ ככה, משא"כ כשיודעים מראש שלאחר זמן קצר יכתבו בפרטיות, וכמו בהנ"ל, שמספר פלוני נמכר מספר טופסים כך וכך ומספר פלוני כך וכך, ה"ז משנה את הגישה מעיקרא...
