Blessings and greetings* (see note 1),

I have duly received your letter of 4 Tishrei*, in which you describe what you are accomplishing in your surroundings to intensify the light of Judaism and what pertains to it. No doubt you will not content yourself with the proportions reached until now. You will expand them, in accordance with the injunction of our holy Torah*, that one must know elevation in the domain of holiness. And nothing resists teshuvah*.

You ask me to advise you, from here, about what you should do. Yet it is clear that all of this depends on the local conditions and on the character traits of the person leading this activity. In your location, there is much to do in various domains. And it is said: "Your poor come first..." (see note 2). You must therefore, above all, invest yourself in the domain of Chabad* and what is related to it. If you examine the situation, you will surely find several activities that you can undertake within the Chabad* women and girls association or in the Chabad* schools. May Hashem grant that you act with enthusiasm. In this way, you will achieve success.

You ask me where you should live. It is not clear that the moment has come to pose this question, while several questions must be resolved beforehand. When it comes to that, it is certain that you must take into account what you write.

Nevertheless, I am a bit surprised by what you say in your letter. You emphasize that you would miss your parents if you were far from them. This is certainly the case, but it is also true that parents renounce this feeling, provided that their children settle in the proper way. In the end, they are not satisfied if they realize that one gave up a better arrangement so as not to be led to miss them. Moreover, this renunciation extends over several months, perhaps even several years. One can therefore fear that an unpleasant feeling toward those one misses will take root in the heart, because one has thereby deprived oneself of certain things and reduced one's gains. There are few exceptions to this rule.

I will adopt a positive conclusion. You have announced to me that you will become engaged these days. May Hashem grant that it be at a good and fruitful time, that you build a Chassidic home that will influence its surroundings through the light and warmth of Chassidus*, to the great satisfaction of the parents on both sides.
