You ask me (see note 1) why it is not sufficient, in order to fulfill the terms of the verse (see note 2): "We will complete with the bulls of our lips," to cite the showbread* in the hymns describing the service of Hashem (see note 3)?

I mentioned, in my previous letter (see note 4), the Shulchan Aruch* of the Alter Rebbe*, establishing that it must be so. One can also deduce this from the fact that the verses of Musaf* are recited, according to the Shulchan Aruch*, Orach Chaim*, at the end of chapter 488.

Notes:

(1) This letter is addressed to Rav Yehuda Shmotkin. See, on his subject, letter no. 4594.

(2) According to which a sacrifice that cannot be offered must be replaced by the Torah's description of it.

(3) Recited in the Musaf* prayer, rather than making it a specific paragraph at the end of that prayer.
