Greetings and blessings*,

I have just received your letter of 20 Elul*, with its contents. As you request, I will mention the name of this woman, may Hashem grant her long life, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that she obtain satisfaction of her needs in general and that her health improve in particular.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you that every addition to Torah* and its mitzvos* made by the members of her family will also strengthen her merit, so as to multiply the blessings of the Creator of the world, Who directs it, in everything she needs.

Last point, which arouses the most interest — you inform me that you are going to be married.

It is presumably superfluous to remind you that marriage introduces a new life for two people who associate and then unite in order to establish a Jewish home. It is therefore necessary and even indispensable to make the firm decision to base this life on foundations that will withstand the fluctuations of this world, without losing any of their strength and determination. Indeed, the solidity of the foundations determines the maintenance of the entire edifice.

The life of the people of Yisroel* and of each Jew personally has traversed different periods, various transformations. Despite this, they are "all present today," in the expression of the Torah*. This refers, of course, to a way of life that conforms to the teachings of our Torah*, the Torah* of life.

It is for this reason that many peoples, materially numerous and strong, have disappeared without a trace, whereas the Children of Yisroel* are still alive. And the same applies individually to every Jewish man and woman.

What has just been said enables one to understand what is expected of each one of us: "One must not be affected by the mockers." Even if Jews are "the smallest among the nations," even if those who observe Torah* and mitzvos* are not always in the majority among Jews, adopting this way of life is nonetheless the obligation and the merit of each one of us. It is in this way that one can have a happy life, spiritually and materially.

May the Creator of the world, Who directs it, grant you and your fiancee the merit of making a decision in this direction. In this way, you will be happy throughout your life.

With my blessing* of Mazal Tov*, Mazal Tov*, and that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year,
