Greetings and blessings*,

I am responding to your letter of 14 Elul*, in which you tell me that you are considering coming here to pursue your studies.

You know my answer on this subject. There is much to do in the domain of Chabad* in the Holy Land. And, due to our sins, the negligence there is considerable as well. Whoever is on the spot must therefore use his strengths and his abilities in this direction, until what is destroyed is rebuilt, until what is lacking is filled.

Every moment that passes without doing all this is a loss that will not be recovered. And who knows if there will be another propitious moment like the present one? And if this is so for everyone, how much more is it the case for the young, who possess strength and ardor, who have lived only a short time in this world of falsehood.

This applies to you in particular. You have observed that your effort has been crowned with success in the domain of proper education. Every thought that weakens or disturbs (see note 1) this has a source that is not pure, in accordance with the well-known saying (see note 2) of the Rebbe Rashab*, stating the criterion that enables one to determine this source, as reported in HaYom Yom* on the date of 23 Sivan 5703 (see note 3).

It follows from all this that by sincerely meditating on what you must accomplish in the domain of Chabad* in the Holy Land, you will begin to act concretely, as quickly as possible. You will influence, in particular, your surroundings. You will explain that all of this concerns everyone, and there is no need to say more, so evident is this — even though sometimes the corruption inspired by secondary considerations blinds even the eyes of the wise.

May Hashem grant that you inform me, by return mail, that you have begun your action in everything just described, and with joy. May Hashem grant you success.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ד אלול, בו כותב הסברא דנסיעה ללמוד לכאן.

כבר ידועה מלתי בזה, אשר רבה העבודה בכרם חב"ד באה"ק ת"ו, ובעוה"ר רבה ג"כ העזובה, ועל כאו"א הנמצא על אתר עליו לנצל כל כחותיו ואפשריותו לעבודה זו עדי יקוימו הנהרסות והנחרבות ימלאו החסרון וכו', וכל רגע העובר מבלי זה אבידה שאינה חוזרת היא, ומי יודע אם תהי' עוד שעת הכושר כמו עתה, ואם בכל אחד הדברים אמורים עאכו"כ בהנוגע לצעירים אשר כחם ומרצם אתם ולא היו עדיין כ"כ זמן בהאי עלמא דשיקרא ובפרט בהנוגע אליו שראה פרי טוב בעמלו בשטח החינוך הכשר שכל מחשבה המחלישה בזה ומבלבלת בזה, מקורה בלתי טהור, וכידוע פתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע הבחינה בכגון דא (ראה יום יום כ"ג סיון ה'תש"ג).

המורם מהנ"ל שיתבונן אליבא דנפשי' מה עליו לפעול בעניני חב"ד באה"ק ת"ו, ויתחיל בהקדם בפעולות ממשיות בזה, ומהם היא גם ההשפעה על כל סביבתו, להסבירם שהדברים מכוונים לכל אחד מהם, ואין להאריך בדבר הפשוט, אף שלפעמים השוחד דענינים צדדים מעוור אפילו עיני פקחים, ויה"ר שבחוזר יבשר שנגש לפעולות בכל האמור ומתוך שמחה דוקא, והשי"ת יצליחו.
