Greetings and blessings*,
I am responding to your letter of 5 Elul*:
A) How can one who has committed several transgressions redeem himself?
He must study Iggeres HaTeshuvah* of the Alter Rebbe* and the first part of the Tanya* (see note 1). He will find therein good counsel for all of this.
B) How can one who has committed a transgression that is not repaired by Teshuvah* redeem himself?
Nothing resists Teshuvah* and there is no transgression that it cannot repair, even if this requires that intentionally committed sins be transformed into merits (see note 2). Nevertheless, not all forms of Teshuvah* are identical, and not all efforts made in this matter are the same.
If you study Iggeres HaTeshuvah*, you will perceive the light in this domain and you will know what you must do. The friends one has play a preponderant role, and you should therefore draw close to the youth of the Chabad* association and the elderly Chassidim* of the holy city of Jerusalem (see note 3). They will guide you.
It would be good to have your tefillin* checked. Likewise, you will observe the three well-known studies — Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*.

במענה על מכתבו מיום ה' אלול:
... ב) מה תקנה יש למי שעבר כמה עבירות.
ילמוד באגרת התשובה לרבנו הזקן, ובתניא חלק א', ובהם ימצא העצה הנכונה להנ"ל.
ג) מה תקנה יש למי שעבר על עבירה שאין עלי' תשובה.
אין לך דבר העומד בפני התשובה, ואין לך עבירה שאין תשובה יכולה לתקן אותה ואפילו באופן שזדונות נעשו לו כזכיות, אלא שאין התשובות שוות. ואין כל ההשתדלויות בזה שוות, וכשילמוד באגרת התשובה הנ"ל יראה אור וידע את אשר לפניו לעשות, וכיון שהרבה חברות עושה, יתיידד עם צעירי אגודת חב"ד וזקני אנ"ש אשר בעיה"ק ירושת"ו והם יורוהו.
מהנכון אשר יתן לבדוק את התפילין שלו, וכן אשר ישמור שלשת השיעורים בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.
