Greetings and blessings*,

I am responding to your letter of 13 Elul*, in which you describe your situation regarding the study of Torah*, the fear of Hashem, and the battle against the evil inclination.

The explanation of all this (see note 1) is already given in the Tanya*. You should therefore study at least Iggeres HaTeshuvah* and the first thirty-three chapters of the first part of the Tanya*, as well as several chapters of the Derech HaChaim* (see note 2). And you should meet with the youth of the Chabad* association in Jerusalem (see note 3). Thus, you will achieve success in this matter.

It would be good to have your tefillin* checked. Likewise, you should wear a tallis katan* whose tzitzis* have been verified. Every weekday, before the morning prayer, you should give several coins to tzedakah*.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ג אלול, בו כותב אודות מצבו בלימוד התורה וביראת שמים ובמלחמת היצר וכו'.

וכבר מלתו אמורה בספר התניא, וילמוד באגרת התשובה שם ול"ג פרקים דחלק ראשון בתניא לכה"פ וכן איזה פרקים בדרך חיים, ויפגש עם צעירי אגו"ח אשר בירושלים ת"ו, ותתרבה גם ההצלחה בזה.

מהנכון ליתן לבדוק את התפילין שלו, וכן אשר ישא טלית קטן שציציותיו בדוקות, ושבכל יום חול לפני תפלת הבקר יפריש איזה פרוטות לצדקה.
