Greetings and blessings*,

I am responding to your letter, which was undated, in which you mention the archaeological excavations at Beit She'arim*. In the meantime, you have surely learned of the letters of the Rabbanim* of the Holy Land on this subject.

I am surprised that you say nothing about your situation regarding your study of Torah* and your practice of its mitzvos*, which are the channel and the vessels for everything concerning a Jewish person and, in particular, a Yeshivah* student. You will surely specify all this at the next opportunity.

May Hashem grant that you also inform me that you have a fixed time for the study of the inner dimension of Torah* which, in our times, has been revealed in Chassidus*, enabling a person to love Hashem and to fear Him. You should consult, on this subject, the Rambam*, Laws of the Foundations of the Torah, at the beginning of chapter 2 (see note 1).

It is also Chassidus* that enables one to perceive the Unity of Hashem, by explaining what it truly is. These are perpetual mitzvos* (see note 2), applying at all times and in all places, for every Jewish person, as explained in the introduction of the Sefer HaChinuch* (see note 1).

May Hashem grant that you increase this fixed time (see note 3). The Halachah* indeed emphasizes that one ascends in matters of holiness. And you will influence your friends in this direction.

במענה על מכתבו - בלא הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב אודות החפירות בבית שערים, ובטח בינתים נודע לו ממכתבי הרבנים באה"ק ת"ו בענין זה.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר ע"ד מעמדו ומצבו בלימוד התורה והידור בקיום מצותי', והרי הם הן הצנור והכלים לכל עניני איש הישראלי, ובפרט של בן ישיבה, ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות קרובה, ויה"ר שיודיע גם כן שיש לו קביעות בלימוד פנימיות התורה שבדורנו זה נתגלתה בתורת החסידות המביאה את האדם לאהבתו ויראתו ית' (עיין רמב"ם הלכות יסוה"ת ריש פרק ב') המאפשר לו לקיים מצות אחדות השם (כיון שאז מבין מה ענין האחדות האמיתית) וכו' מצות תמידים בכל זמן ובכל מקום ובכל איש עם הישראלי. וכמובא בהקדמת ספר החינוך, ויהי רצון שיוסיף גם בקביעות זמן וכפסק דין דמעלין בקדש, וישפיע על חבריו בכגון דא.
