Greetings and blessings*,

I am responding to your letter of Rosh Chodesh* of the month of mercy (see note 1), in which you ask me to indicate to you the gate of Torah* and the fear of Hashem, to show you the means of guarding one's eyes and one's tongue (see note 2).

It is clear that this depends on various factors — the character traits of the one asking the question, the conditions of the place. Nevertheless, the general idea is expressed in the holy Tanya*, at the beginning of chapter 41. One must awaken the fear of Hashem that everyone possesses naturally, meditating on the fact that Hashem stands before him, that He probes the innermost being and the heart to determine whether one serves Him properly. You should study this text.

The conduct to adopt afterwards can be approached in various ways and through several paths. You should therefore present your situation to Chassidic* friends who know you. They will guide you, based on their experience acquired with their students.

The period is favorable for achieving success in this matter, as explained in Likkutei Torah*, Parshas* Re'eh, page 32b, which states that in Elul*, the King is in the field and He welcomes with benevolence all who come to Him there. You should study this text.

מובן שהנ"ל תלוי בכמה פרטים ותכונת נפש השואל, תנאי המקום וכו', ואף שנקודה התיכונה בכל זה הוא כפי האמור - בתניא קדישא ריש פרק מ"א לעורר היראה הטבעית וכו' להתבונן במחשבתו כו' הנה ה' נצב עליו כו' ומביט עליו ובוחן כליות ולב אם עובדו כראוי, עיי"ש, כמה אופנים ישנם וכמה דרכים ישנם בהנהגה לאחר זה, ויפרש ענינו לפני אנ"ש ידידיו המכירים אותו והם יורוהו מיוסד על הנסיון בהמושפעים שלהם בכגון דא, וזמנא קגרים להצלחה באמור ע"פ המבואר בלקו"ת פ' ראה לב, ב שבחדש אלול המלך נמצא בשדה ומקבל את כל אלו הרוצים לקבל פניו בספ"י כו', עיין שם.
