Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 26 Menachem Av (see note 1), in which you present once again your reasons and explanations justifying your desire to leave Morocco.

I maintain, nevertheless, my position, basing myself firmly on the statement of our Sages that "the poor of your city take precedence" (see note 2). Your spiritual well-being, and therefore also your material well-being, consist in making use of your abilities and your knowledge in the domain of education in sacred values, in Morocco, among our brothers the Children of Yisroel, the Sephardim*.

The more you redouble ardor and effort in this, the more you will receive the assurance from the Creator of the world, Who directs it, of obtaining satisfaction of all your needs and those of the members of your family, in every domain.

And you will know success in study as well. Indeed, the Alter Rebbe*, author of the holy Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, states that by giving tzedakah*, which of course includes spiritual tzedakah, one obtains "a mind and a heart a thousand times more refined" (see note 3).

May Hashem grant that you choose this good portion, and as I said, you will give me good news by informing me that you are training students of whom it will eventually be said: "See the plantings I have raised."

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ו במנחם, בו כותב עוד הפעם סברתו וטעמיו להעתקה ממרוקה.

ואני בדעתי אעמודה, מיוסד חזק במאמר רז"ל ענייך קודמין, אשר טובתו ברוחניות, ומזה מובן שזהו גם כן טובתו בגשמיות לנצל כשרונותיו וידיעותיו בשטח החינוך על טהרת הקדש במרוקה בתוככי אחינו בני ישראל הספרדים, וככל שיוסיף במרץ והשתדלות בזה מובטח בורא עולם ומנהיגו למלאות המצטרך לו ולב"ב שי' בעניניו הפרטים, ובודאי גם כן הצלחה בלימוד, וכמאמר רבנו הזקן בעל התניא קדישא והשו"ע אשר על ידי הצדקה (ופשוט אשר צדקה רוחנית בכלל זה) נעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה, ויהי רצון אשר יבחר בחלק היפה זה, וכאמור, ויבשר טוב שמקים תלמידים שיוכל לאמר עליהם במשך הזמן ראו גדולים שגדלתי.
