I am responding to your letter of 19 Menachem Av. I read with pleasure that you will serve as chazzan*, on Rosh Hashanah* or Yom Kippur*, at the synagogue where you were invited to deliver words of encouragement.

It is unnecessary to specify that this (see note 1) is necessary both on Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur, as well as during the intermediate days (see note 2), in particular on Shabbos Shuvah*. According to the calendar of this year, you will indeed need to be there (see note 3).

Of course, you must not tire your audience. Sometimes, therefore, you should say that it is an analysis, a commentary, and not words of mussar*. You will surely find the appropriate approach and the right words. Hashem will grant you success.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ט מנ"א נעם לי לקרות בו שיהי' ש"צ בבית הכנסת בו הציעו לו שיאמר לפניהם דברי התעוררות בר"ה או ביום הכפורים. ובודאי שאך למותר לעורר בזה שצריך להיות בר"ה וגם ביוהכ"פ וגם בימים שבינתיים, ובפרט בשבת שובה - שהרי יהי' שם גם אז לפי הקביעות דשנה הבע"ל. אף שמובן - באופן שלא ייגע את השומעים.

ולכן לפעמים צריכים לומר שזהו שקו"ט שיחה ולא דרוש מוסרי. ובטח ימצא אופנים המתאימים ואותיות המתאימות. והשי"ת יצליחו.
