To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Chaim Menachem HaCohen,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the end of Tammuz. As you request, I will mention all those you cite near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. I will also mention your own name, so that you may better grasp the holy Tanya*, which you study with friends, beginning with the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, filled with zeal, of manifold accomplishments, Rav Chaim Eliezer HaLevi (see note 1). And you know the words of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that literally everyone, the beginner as well as the greatest, can draw a lesson from the study of the holy Tanya.

Moreover, when this study is public, when one makes an effort to understand these holy words, one increases the success that Hashem grants and one grasps more deeply, one puts into practice, for "the deed is essential." Great is the study of the inner dimension of Torah*, which the holy Zohar* calls "the soul of the Torah."

When the soul is vivified, all the limbs of the body, and not merely one, are vivified as well. This is not the case if one strengthens only one of these limbs. The addition is then only in that domain, all the other limbs receiving only scraps. You should understand what all this means.

You will convey my greetings to your friends who participate in this Torah study session. I also send you my blessing to give good news of your progress in study. This will enable you, as we say each day in prayer (see note 2), "to learn and to teach, to do and to accomplish."

במענה על מכתבו משילהי תמוז, כבקשתו יזכירו את כל אלה שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ואותו לתוספת הבנה בלימוד ספר תניא קדישא הנלמד בדבוק חברים ובראשות של הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ בעל מרץ רב פעלים מו"ה חיים אליעזר הלוי שי', וכבר ידוע דברי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, אשר המתחיל והגדול שבגדולים וכל אחד, יכולים ליקח מלימוד התניא קדישא.

ובפרט כשלומדים זה ברבים ומתייגעים להבין דבריו הקדושים שעי"ז מתרבה הצלחת השי"ת להגדלת ההבנה ושתהי' באופן שתביא לידי מעשה, כי המעשה הוא העיקר, וגדול לימוד פנימיות התורה הנקרא בזוהר הק' נשמתא דאורייתא, שכאשר נתוסף חיות בהנשמה נתוסף במילא בכל אברי הגוף ולא באבר אחד לבד (משא"כ כשמוסיפים בחיות באחד מאברי הגוף שההוספה רק במקום זה ובשאר האברים מגיע רק שירים, והנמשל מובן).

בפ"ש כל חבריו לשיעור תורה זה ובברכה לבשו"ט מההתקדמות בלימוד, ושהלימוד הוא - בלשון תפלתנו בכל יום - ללמוד וללמד לשמור ולעשות ולקיים.
