To the Chassidic* leaders in Melbourne,
may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received, after your long silence, your letter of 11 Menachem Av, written by the Rav and Chassid, Rav Yehoshua Shneur Zalman (see note 1). I respond as follows:

A) It is absolutely necessary to have a girls' school. I am surprised that you are in doubt about this. All those who study the discourses of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, and the great number of his letters, know that he emphasized dozens of times the importance of girls' schools, at least as much as that of boys' schools. You should understand what this means.

B) It follows that, just as with the boys, you must establish a Chabad* school, even if there are institutions belonging to various circles in your city. One can observe that the success in this matter is considerable.

You must therefore create a girls' school for which you will assume full responsibility. Undoubtedly, the success will be considerable here as well, since the source is one (see note 2). You should understand what I mean.

May Hashem grant that they themselves (see note 3) become aware of the truth as it is. They have been granted strengths. Yet the money lies deposited in the bank. They do not make use of these two elements (see note 4) in the proper manner.

To be sure, before the one who provides it places it at their disposal, this money is deposited in the bank, in the account of the one who manages it for Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak*. Nevertheless, it is necessary to explain to him how important all of this is.

Ultimately, the past has shown that you have known success. The wider the receptacle*, the greater the blessing. Various Chassidic* texts explain the meaning of light* and receptacle in the domain of holiness. Indeed, one enters into the other and they complement each other.

Our Sages emphasize that one sanctifies the vessels of service (see note 5) when they are full. Indeed, these belong to the domain of holiness and serve a sacred mission. The Creator of the world therefore asks that they be full. You should understand what this means.

לאחרי שתיקתם הארוכה נתקבל מכ' מי"א מנחם אב, כתוב ע"י הרה"ח וכו' מו"ה יהושע שניאור זלמן שי', ובמענה עליו:

א) ענין בית הספר לנערות, מוכרח הוא ביותר וביותר, ולפלא גם הספיקות בזה - לכל אלו שמתבוננים בשיחות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ובכמה ממכתביו, שעשיריות פעמים הדגיש את ההכרח דחינוך הבנות, עכ"פ לא פחות מחינוך הבנים, וד"ל.

ב) מזה מובן, שכמו בהנוגע לחינוך הבנים, הרי אף שישנם במחנם הט' מוסדות חינוך מחוגים שונים, בכ"ז יסדו מוסד חב"ד, ורואים במוחש הצלחה מופלגה - מוכרח ג"כ שייסדו מוסד חינוך לבנות וג"כ במרותם המלאה, ובלי ספק אשר גם בו יראו הצלחה מופלגה, כיון שהמקור אחד הוא, וק"ל...

ויה"ר שגם הם יכירו את המצב כמו שהוא - שניתנו להם כחות, און אין באנק ליגט געלט, ואת שני הענינים אינם מנצלים כדרוש וככל האפשרי, ואף שעד שהנפקד מעבירו לידם - מונח הכסף בבאנק על הקאנטא של זה שמופקד אצלו בעד אהלי"י, צריכים להסביר להמופקד גודל הענין וכו'. והרי סוכ"ס ראו בעבר שעלה בידם הדבר. וככל שיגדל הכלי - תגדל ג"כ ההשפעה. וכמבואר בדא"ח בכ"מ ענין אור וכלי דקדושה, שהם בהתלבשות ומתאימים זל"ז, וכמרומז גם במרז"ל דכלי שרת מקדשין מלאים, זאת אומרת שכשהכלים הם דעניני קדושה, לשרת בעבודת הקדש - מנהיג בורא עולם שיהיו מלאים, וק"ל.
