Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from Motzaei Shabbos*. I am surprised that you say nothing of your activities in the domain of Yiddishkeit* in the place where you currently find yourself. I mean that you must influence your friends so that they draw closer, ever more, to Torah* and Mitzvos*, particularly in concrete action.

Indeed, a Jewish person exists to fulfill what is his essential mission, defined by the words of the Mishnah*: "I was created to serve my Creator." To carry out this service properly, one must adopt a way of life in accordance with the teachings of our Torah, the Torah of life, and the influence one must exert in this matter upon one's surroundings.

Moreover, you are about to undergo officer training, which will increase your responsibility in all that has just been said. It is quite clear that you must have, each day, a fixed study session in the revealed dimension of Torah and in Chassidus*. This is in addition, of course, to the three well-known daily studies: Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*.

May Hashem grant that you announce good news of all this to me.

במענה על מכתבו ממוצש"ק. לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר מפעולותיו במקום בו נמצא בהנוגע לעניני יהדות, כוונתי להשפיע על חבריו שיתקרבו יותר לתורה ומצותי', והעיקר בהנוגע לפועל, והרי כל עניני איש הישראלי הם בשביל שיוכל למלאות תפקידו העיקרי, בלשון המשנה אני נבראתי לשמש את קוני, אשר שימוש זה נעשה ע"י אורח חיים מתאים להוראת תורתנו תורת חיים ובהשפעה על הסביבה בכגון דא, ובפרט שמתכונן ללמוד גם קורס קצינים שזהו עוד מגדיל האחריות שלו בכל האמור. ומובן ופשוט שבכל יום ויום צריך להיות לו שיעור קבוע בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות, נוסף על שלשת השיעורים הידועים בחומש תהלים ותניא. ויה"ר שיבשר טוב בכל האמור.
