To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and carries out a sacred mission, Rav N. N.,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 27 Tammuz. In accordance with what your letter stated, I have asked my secretariat to send the documents (for them to obtain visas to visit the Rebbe) for the students (see letter 4484). You will surely be contacted, for various reasons it is good that they know these steps are being taken through your intermediary, and above all, that they more deeply internalize the communal purpose of their trip, as has been said (the benefit that will result for others).

No doubt you will write to me precisely about the stay of the emissaries (sent to Eretz Yisroel* following the Kfar Chabad* attack; see letter 4546), may Hashem grant them long life, as well as the influence exerted by their visit on the other students. I am somewhat concerned to note that you say nothing about this in the present letter. For, unofficially, one of the objectives of their visit was precisely to strengthen the ardor of the students of our institutions, at every stop along their way.

Various texts emphasize the contribution that results from a new element. Moreover, it is for this reason that it is stated: "Each day, they (the words of the Torah*) should be as new in your eyes." Your silence seems to indicate that this visit was not used for this purpose. If it had been, you would have said so. You will surely complete all this at the next opportunity.

You will also tell me more about the young man, one of the Chassidim* of France, whom you chose to join the emissaries (Rav Shalom Edelman; see the following letter). What is his knowledge of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*? How does he pray?

May Hashem grant that you announce good news of all this to me.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ז תמוז. - מתאים למכתבו, נמסר להמזכירות לשלוח הניירות בשביל התלמידים. ובטח יבואו עמו בקישור, כיון שמכמה טעמים מהנכון שידעו שעל ידו נעשים ענינים אלו, ובפרט - שיקבלו עליהם בהנחה וקליטה יותר ענין תועלת הרבים מנסיעתם, וכפי המדובר.

בודאי יכתוב בפרטיות בהנוגע לשהותם של השלוחים שליט"א ומהשפעת ביקורם על שאר התלמידים, ומודאג במקצת מה שאין מזכיר במכתבו זה, כיון שבלתי אופיציעל - אחת הכוונות היא, שביקורם יוסיף בחיות תלמידי המוסדות במקומות השונים. וכמבואר בכ"מ פעולה דדבר חדש, עד שנצטוינו במיוחד שבכיו"י יהיו בעיניך כחדשים. וכנראה משתיקתו שלא ניצלו ביקורם לענין זה, שהרי אז בודאי הי' מזכיר במיוחד. ואולי ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה. וכן גם בהנוגע להאברך שי' שבחרו בו להצטרף להשלוחים - מאנ"ש דצרפת, מהותו בנגלה בחסידות ובעבודה, והשי"ת יצליחו לבש"ט בכל האמור.
