Greetings and blessings,

You ask me, in your latest letter, whether it is possible to postpone the mitzvah* for a month (that a woman not go to the mikveh* until the following month). It is clear that this must not be done, especially since in this matter, one must obtain the full consent of the other party (the wife). As the Decisors explain, this constitutes physical suffering (imposed on the spouse). It is therefore difficult to determine whether this consent is given without reservation. You must understand what I mean.

I have already written to several people (see letters 2962 and 3876) that in this matter, a stringent attitude actually becomes a leniency of the Law, or even worse than that. In our orphaned generation, indeed, few are those who can allow themselves such abstention without incident. You must understand this.

May Hashem grant that you cease delving into all this, for such a pursuit is not positive and, obviously, not desirable. You should use your capacity for deep analysis to spread the wellsprings* (of Chassidus*) to the outside, to the greatest extent possible, among the youth of the Chabad association and also in other domains.

May Hashem grant you success.

With my blessing,
