Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your express letter and the urgent dispatches of the 22nd, 24th, and 26th of Tammuz. As you request, I am answering quickly, even though I do not understand the sense of this urgency, a few days before the end of the school year.

You mention the behavior of such and such a student, which is not proper. And there is, on this subject, a disagreement between you and the administration (presumably of the Yeshivah*), regarding the attitude to adopt toward them. You therefore ask that a definitive position be taken here (by the Rebbe himself).

On the one hand, the Halachah* specifies that one cannot reach a decision having heard only one of the parties. Moreover, do you think it is proper to intervene, being on another continent, regarding a few students attending an institution that has an administration composed of several members?

You surely know that the Lubavitch institutions worldwide have several thousand students. If the decision regarding the imposition of a penalty had to be taken at a central location, one would be overwhelmed in the most catastrophic manner.

One must therefore not adopt conduct that does not belong to the World of Tikkun* (the World of Rectification, whose conduct is measured and balanced). When there is a difference of opinion within the administration of any institution, all its members must be assembled. All parties present their position, and the final decision is taken according to the majority view, in keeping with customary practice. For, in the end, all members of the administration genuinely seek the good of the institution and of its students.

I send you my blessing to report good news of all this, and you will inform me that everything has been resolved.

במענה על מכתבו המהיר והדחופים מכ"ב כ"ד וכ"ו תמוז, וכבקשתו נשלח המענה דחוף, אף שאין מובן מה המהירות בזה איזה ימים לפני סיום זמן הלימודים.

בהם כותב אודות הנהגת פב"פ ופב"פ מהתלמידים שאינה כדבעי ויש בזה חילוקי דיעות בינו ובין הנהלת... איך להתנהג עמהם, ולכן רוצה שמכאן יפסקו את הדין.

והנה (מלבד הדין הידוע שאין פוסקין על יסוד שמועה מצד אחד), האם לפי דעתו הסדר שיתערבו מעבר לים בנוגע לתלמידים פרטים במוסד שיש לו הנהלה בת כמה חברים, ובטח ידוע לו שבמוסדות ליובאוויטש הנמצאים בכל קצוי תבל נמצאים כמה אלפים תלמידים-ות, ואם החלטת שאלת הטלת קנס וכיו"ב יוכרחו להורות בזה מן המרכז, יהי' זה ע"ד הכתוב נבול תבול אלא שבמדה עוד יותר מבהילה, ואין ללכת בהנהגות שאינן מעולם התיקון, וכשיש חילוקי דיעות בהנהלת איזה מוסד, מבקשים לעשות אסיפה של כל החברים ושכל הצדדים יציעו טענותיהם ויחליטו ברוב דיעות כנהוג כיון שסו"ס הרי כוונת כל חברי ההנהלה צ"ל טובת המוסד והתלמידים.
