To the members of the Religious Committee of Montevideo, Department for Family Purity, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 5 Tammuz, in which you describe the situation of the mikveh*, whose construction is nearing completion with the necessary improvements. This has resulted in financial difficulties that delay the completion of this edifice, so important for Yiddishkeit*.

The fund at my disposal is strained well beyond the means available to it, especially since Montevideo is a great Jewish metropolis. Surely one can find there a sufficient number of Orthodox Jews who understand the paramount importance of taharas hamishpachah* (family purity) and are capable of completing and finalizing the mikveh.

Despite this, considering that my father-in-law, the Rebbe (the Frierdiker Rebbe*), whose merit protects us, showed his interest in this mikveh (see Igrot Kodesh of the Previous Rebbe, vol. 9, letter 2956) from the earliest stages of its establishment by purchasing the land upon which it is built, I attach special value to it and therefore wish to participate in its completion. Accordingly, I enclose a check made out to the Committee for Family Purity.

May Hashem bring about speedily the fulfillment of the promises: "I will sprinkle pure water upon you" (Yechezkel 36:25), and "Hashem is the Mikveh of Israel" (Yirmiyahu 17:13), as the Rambam* explains at the end of his Laws of the Mikveh — as well as the promise, "The earth will be filled with the knowledge of Hashem, as the waters cover the sea" (Yeshayahu 11:9).

במענה על מכתבם מיום ה׳ תמוז ,בו כותבים אודות המצב בנוגע

לסיום בנין בית הטבילה והשיפורים הנחוצים הגורמים לקשיים

כספיים מיוחדים ומעכבים את יישומו של מוסד כה חשוב ליהדות.

אף על פי שהקופה שבמערכת שלי נדרשת להיות לעזר במידה

גדולה בהרבה מאפשרויותיי ,ובפרט כשמדובר אודות עיר ואם בישראל

כמונטבידאו ,שלכאורה בטח ישנו מספר מספיק של יהודים חרדים

המבינים את הצורך החיוני של טהרת המשפחה ,וצריכים להתאמץ

לסיים ולהחזיק את המקוה.

אבל כשלוקחים בחשבון שכ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ

זי״ע התעניין באופן אישי במקוה עוד בשלבים הראשונים של הקמתה

בעת קניית המקום בעד המקוה ,הרי מילתא אלבישייהו יקירא ,רוצה

גם אני להשתתף בהמשך וסיום המקוה ,ומצו״ב המחאה על שם ועד

טהרת המשפחה.
