To my close relative, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of illustrious lineage,

Rav Shneur Zalman (see note 1),

I greet you and bless you.

I duly received your letter, which reached me on the eve of the luminous day of the celebration of the liberation (see note 2). As you request, I will mention your name and those of the members of your family at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us and whose joy we celebrate.

May Hashem grant that you spread the wellsprings (see note 3) outward, in your surroundings, for long days and good years. The one whose joy we celebrate devoted himself to this, to the point of giving his very life. Now, it is explained in Iggeres HaKodesh* that after departing from this world, he (see note 4) is even more present in it. His disciples can therefore, very easily, receive their portion of the profound spirit of the master — and not merely of his reflection. And the result is commensurate with the effort (see note 5).

With my blessing on the occasion of the celebration of the liberation, and greeting your wife (see note 6), my close relative,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו שנתקבל ערב יום הבהיר יום הגאולה, וכבקשתו אזכירו ואת ב"ב שיחיו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בעל השמחה, ויה"ר שלאריכות ימים ושנים טובות יתעסק בסביבתו בהפצת המעינות חוצה ענין בו עבד בעל השמחה ועד כדי מס"נ, והרי מבואר באגה"ק דבתר דאתפטר אשתכח יתיר ונקל מאד לתלמידיו לקבל חלקם מבחי' רוח רבם העצמיות וכו' ולא זיום בלבד, ולפום גמלא שיחנא.
