I greet you and bless you.

I am responding to your letter written at the conclusion of Shabbos*, in which you tell me that you have difficulty concentrating during prayer. Nevertheless, you tell me nothing about the time you set aside for the study of Torah, and more generally, about the manner in which you practice the mitzvos*. Now, all of this is connected (see note 1). No doubt you will provide me with these details in your next correspondence.

Concerning what you describe, you should study, with the appropriate depth, chapter 28 of the holy Tanya*, which clearly answers your question. Furthermore, as other sefarim* explain, you should endeavor to observe the ritual immersion instituted by Ezra (see note 2). Each weekday, before the morning prayer, you should give several coins to tzedakah*. And you should maintain the three daily studies that concern everyone, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. These concern the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya, and are well known.

Our Sages have told us that Hashem acts "measure for measure" (see note 3). You must therefore use the influence you exercise in the milieu where you operate in order to spread the spirit of Yiddishkeit*, so that those around you intensify their practice of mitzvos — in particular those to whom it was said, twice: "Your camp shall be holy."

You will surely find the appropriate words to explain all this. The young people of the Chabad association will help you as they can, if this is necessary.

Your lot is fortunate, for Divine Providence has given you the possibility to influence a certain milieu, to draw hearts even closer to our Father Who is in Heaven.

With my blessing for good news of all this soon,

For the Rebbe Shlita*,

the secretary,

Notes:

(1) The lack of concentration during prayer is connected to the lack of study or practice.

(2) After each conjugal relation, and more generally, each day.

(3) In the manner in which one acts toward Him.
