To the Rebbetzin*, Mrs. Sarah (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 26 Sivan, in which you discuss the concluding gathering (see note 2) before the vacation period.

It is known that one of the reasons for the Jewish custom of reading Parshas Bereishis* (see note 3) immediately after saying "before the eyes of all Israel" (see note 4) is as follows. One thereby underscores that one never ceases studying the Torah*, that a conclusion has no meaning in this regard. From this one can conclude that the same applies to the sacred mission of strengthening Yiddishkeit* and disseminating it. Here too, there is no conclusion; one can only modify the form of one's action, which must be suited to each moment, each period, according to its content.

I have good hope that the Toronto chapter of the Chabad* women and girls will adopt this conception — that is, that at the concluding celebration of the activities corresponding to the school-year period, one will address and prepare for the activities to be carried out during the school vacation.

During several Chassidic* farbrengens*, it was said that during the period called "vacation," education must be even more intense. The responsibility is then increased, for the chances of success are greater, since the students are exempt from secular studies that divert their minds from sacred studies and related matters. And the same applies to the parents (see note 5).

With my blessing for good news of all this, with greetings to the members of your chapter and their families,

במענה על מכתבה מכ"ו סיון, בו כותבת אודות אסיפת הסיום לפני ימי החופש.

- וכבר ידוע אחד הטעמים למנהג ישראל שמתחילים מבראשית תיכף להסיום דלעיני כל ישראל, והוא להדגיש שאין מפסיקים מענין לימוד התורה ואין שייך בזה סיום, ומזה מובן לכל עבודה בקדש החזקת היהדות והפצתה שאין בזה ענין של סיום ואפשרי רק שינוי צורת העבודה ואופנה שצריכה להתאים בכל זמן ותקופה לפי ענינם.

ובטחוני חזק שגם בהנוגע לסניף נשי ובנות חב"ד דטרנטה תהי' הנהגה האמורה, זאת אומרת שבאסיפת הסיום דהעבודה המתאימה לזמן הלימוד של הנוער ידונו ויתחילו בהכנות להעבודה המתאימה לימי החופש של הנוער מבתי הספר. וכבר נדבר באיזו מההתועדויות אשר דוקא בימים הנקראים ימי חופש, עבודת החינוך גדולה יותר ואחראית יותר והסיכוים להצלחה מתרבים כיון שאין הענין דלימודי חול המסיחים דעתם של התלמידים-ות ועי"ז גם של ההורים מלימוד קדש ועניניהם...
