To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and carries out a sacred mission,

Rav Saadya (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 14 Sivan. You tell me that you spent Lag BaOmer* and the festival of Shavuos* in solitude (see note 2). This is surprising, for I have repeatedly emphasized what our holy masters say in various talks. Each of us, wherever he may be, must consider himself a shliach*, not only to observe a certain mitzvah* for a period of time, or even to spread Chassidus* and its practices, but also to act in all areas of Yiddishkeit* where it is possible.

You have therefore been concretely appointed for this. And you must act, in a pleasant and peaceful manner, in such a place and at such a time. Consequently, the result is commensurate with the effort (see note 3). You have spent several months, several years in Sefrou. Is it possible to claim that there is no one among all those who reside there (see note 4), particularly those who carry out a sacred mission there (see note 5), with whom you could exchange a Chassidic* word, or even, further still, a teaching of Chassidus*? Here again, it is surely unnecessary to say more.

With my blessing for good news of all this and for success in your sacred mission,

במענה על מכתבו מי"ד סיון... מ"ש של"ג בעומר וחה"ש עבר באופן של בדידות, תמוה הדבר, שהרי כ"פ עוררתי על הנמצא בדברי נשיאינו הק' זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ובכמה משיחותיהם, אשר כאו"א מאתנו במקומו עליו להביט על עצמו כשליח לא רק בהנוגע למצוה מיוחדה ולזמן מיוחד ואפילו לא רק לעניני תורת החסידות והדרכותי', אלא שבכל עניני היהדות שיכול לפעול על זה - ה"ה הממונה בפועל - בדרכי נועם ושלום על זה במקום פלוני ובזמן פלוני, ולפום גמלא שיחנא, וכיון שנמצא בצפרו משך כמה חדשים ושנים, האומנם אפשר לומר שאין בין כל התושבים בע"ב ועאכו"כ מהמשרתים בקדש המוכשרים לקבל א חסידישן ווארט, ועוד יותר מפתגם - חסידישע הדרכה, ובודאי גם בזה למותר האריכות.
