Greetings and blessings,
I received your letter of 28 Iyar*, which followed a long interruption. You inform me of the various difficulties you have faced in recent months. You conclude by saying that you have a broken and contrite heart, because you do not know to whom to turn.
I am surprised, astonished, and pained that, finding yourself in the holy city of Yerushalayim*, in which there are many Jews who fear the Word of Hashem and His Torah*, you are unable to seek counsel from anyone. There is presumably a stratagem of the evil inclination here, which attacks a person in every possible way in order to prevent him from putting into practice the Commandment of the Creator: "Serve Hashem with joy."
It would be good for you to present your difficulties in detail before the elder chassidim*, in particular the great Rav Nachum Shmaryahu Sosonkin, who resides in the rabbinical refugee quarter, in Romema. They will all guide you. Obviously, you may show them this letter or tell them that you are consulting them upon my advice.
May Hashem grant that you put into practice the Injunctions of Hashem, studying the Torah* and observing the mitzvos*, with joy and enthusiasm. For everything depends on one's will.

לאחר הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ח אייר, בו כותב אודות הפרעות השונות שהיו לו בחדשים האחרונים, ומסיים שלבו שבור ורצוץ וכו' כי אין לו למי לפנות.
ולפלא ותמי' וגם מצער, אשר בשעה שנמצא בעיה"ק ירושלים ת"ו ובה כו"כ - כן ירבו - מבני ישראל החרדים לדבר ה' ותורתו, אינו מוצא עם מי להתייעץ. ובודאי אין זה אלא מתחבולות היצר המתנכל לאדם בכל האופנים האפשרים, ובלבד למונעו ממצות בורא עולם עבדו את ה' בשמחה. ומהנכון שיציע פרטי עניניו לפני זקני אנ"ש ומהם הרה"ג כו' מו"ה נחום שמרי' שי' ששונקין, שכון רבנים פליטים, רוממה, והם יורוהו, ומובן שיכול להראות להם מכתבי זה, או לאמר להם שפונה אליהם על פי עצתי, ויזכהו השי"ת לקיים ציוויו בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצות בשמחה ובטוב לבב, ואין דבר תלוי אלא ברצונו.
