Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 4 Sivan and to the one that preceded it. You know the teaching and the saying of our holy master, according to which "one action is preferable to a thousand complaints." Obviously, several actions are even better. Such is the need of the moment, the obligation and the merit of each person, particularly of those whom Divine Providence has placed in a ray of light by enabling them to be students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*. You must understand what I mean.

You allude to the meditation of Chassidus* before prayer. I have already said, on this subject, that after studying from a text, it is preferable to review the ideas rather than the exact words — except when this is necessary in order not to lose the reasoning and its synthesis, as can be verified in practice. Indeed, the feeling of the heart (see note 1) is aroused more easily by reflecting on an idea than by reading the words.

I am surprised that you do not mention the study — or at least the review — of the practical halachos* (see note 2), particularly those that one applies every day. Such study is indispensable, as is also explained in the laws of Torah* study of the Alter Rebbe*.

No doubt you are observing the study schedule of the Yeshivah*, in accordance with what must currently be your role. You are also influencing the other students in this regard. Submission, obedience, and adherence to the study schedule are the foundation of success in study.

Hashem will grant you success in reporting good news of all this.

במענה על מכתבו מד' סיון, והקודם לו. וכבר ידוע הוראת ופתגם כ"ק נשיאנו הק', שטובה פעולה אחת מאלף אנחות ופשיטא שטוב כו"כ פעולות, אשר זהו דרישת השעה חובתם וזכותם של כאו"א ובפרט אלו אשר השגחה העליונה העמידתם בקרן אורה בלימוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים, וק"ל.

ובמ"ש אודות מחשבת דא"ח קודם התפלה, כבר מלתי אמורה בכגון דא שלאחר הלימוד בפנים טוב יותר לחזור על הענינים ולא התיבות והמלות בדיוק מלבד אם נצרכים לזה כדי שלא לאבד נקודת ההשכלה ונקודת התמצית, וכנראה במוחש אשר להרגש הלב באים בקל יותר מהתבוננות בהענין מאשר הדיוק בהתיבות.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר ע"ד לימוד או עכ"פ חזרה על הלכות הצריכות ובפרט הצריכות בחיי היום יומי, שדבר הכרחי הוא, וכמבואר גם בהלכות ת"ת לרבנו הזקן.

בודאי שומר סדרי הישיבה מתאים לתעודתו עתה בהישיבה ומשפיע על התלמידים בכגון דא, וקבלת עול ומשמעת והסדרים יסוד הוא להצלחה בהלימודים ויצליחו השי"ת לבשר טוב בכל האמור.
