Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter, in which you inform me of the state of health of your wife — may she be granted long life. I will mention her name at a propitious time near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. I will also cite yours and those of the members of your family, so that everything proceeds as you write. May Hashem grant that you give me good news of all this.

You tell me that you did not want to write to me until now, because you were ashamed to do so (see note 1). You note, first of all, that you were a student of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lodz. I am certain that this study and this period exert their effect on the present and will do so on the future as well.

Obviously, every day that passes without one acting fully is a loss. I say "fully" because, based on my knowledge of the character of people and of the education imparted by the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, I am certain that one can observe the consequence of the education you received (see note 2). However, it may not be full and complete.

Every Jew receives unlimited strength in this matter, and it is therefore clear that everything depends on you. You must act "fully" — to the point where you no longer feel ashamed to write to me, as you note in your letter.

Moreover, we have just experienced the time of the Giving of our Torah* (see note 3). Every Jew now possesses renewed strength to put into practice the mitzvos* of Hashem. May Hashem grant that the content of your next letter be joyful, regarding everything you mention.

(1) Presumably because the recipient of this letter felt that his conduct did not justify his requesting this blessing.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו בו כותב אודות מצב בריאות זוגתו שתליט"א, ובעת רצון אזכירה על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע וכן אותו ואת ב"ב שיחיו מתאים לכתבו, ויה"ר שיודיע בשו"ט בזה.

ובמה שכותב שלא רצה לכתוב אלי עד עתה מפני שמתבייש וכו', הרי כיון שקודם לזה מזכיר שהי' תלמיד תו"ת בלודז, בטוח אני בלימוד זה ובזמן ההוא שיפעלו פעולתם גם בהווה ובעתיד, אף שכמובן שחבל על כל יום עובר מבלי שתהי' הפעולה במילואה, ומדייק אני בתיבה במילואה כי לפי הכרתי בתכונות בני אדם ובידיעתי חינוך דישיבת תומכי תמימים בודאי גם עתה נראית פעולת החינוך האמור אלא שאינה ככל הדרוש וככל האפשרי, וכיון שלכל איש הישראלי נותנים כחות בלתי מוגבלים בענינים כגון דא, ברור אשר בידו הדבר תלוי, היינו ההשלמה בהפעולה האמורה עד שלא יהי' מקום להנוסח במכתב שמתבייש הוא מלכתוב, ובפרט שזה עתה באנו מזמן מתן תורתנו שמתחדשת נתינת הכחות לכל אחד ואחד מבני ישראל לקיום מצותיו ית', ויה"ר שתוכן מכתבו הבא יהי' שמח ובכל הענינים הנזכרים לעיל.
