Greetings and blessings,

I have learned with pleasure that your state of health has improved, that you are doing better. No doubt, the statement of our Sages will apply to you, as stated in tractate Bava Basra* 12b — that when something good is done for someone, it is for long days and good years.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you once again that you have been able to observe, until now, the visible and tangible good that Hashem has granted you. No doubt you have not been troubled by the obstacles and the veils in this matter — those you encounter in your business. This will surely be temporary.

The reason is as follows. Our Sages say: "Why do you concern yourself with what is hidden by Hashem?" Perhaps the purpose of all this was to lead you to send a telegram, stating that you are making a donation of a significant amount, to be allocated according to my judgment.

In such a case, it is preferable to specify the amount, so that there is no doubt on either side. For no matter how large this sum may be, one can consider that it is not commensurate with what you are capable of doing. When it comes to tzedakah*, one should, to the extent possible, avoid speaking of a "large sum." You will therefore provide me with this specification at the next opportunity.

No doubt you are following all the doctors' prescriptions. Indeed, our holy Torah*, Torah of life, states that it grants the physician the permission — that is, also the power — to heal.

I am enclosing a copy of my letter, addressed to all, on the occasion of the general meeting of Nshei* and Bnos* Chabad* that took place here. Please convey it to your wife and also to your daughter, with the appropriate explanations, so that they act in accordance with its content.

This mission of mitzvah* will strengthen the blessing of Hashem for your speedy and complete recovery, as well as for reporting good news of all this.

נעם לי לקבל הידיעה אשר הוטב מצב בריאותו והולך וטוב, ובודאי יקוים בו מאמר רז"ל (ב"ב יב, ב) שכל שמטיבין לו הרי זה לאורך ימים ושנים טובות, ובודאי למותר לעוררו עוד הפעם שכיון שראו הנהגת השי"ת בטוב הנראה והנגלה עד עתה, בודאי לא יתרגש (ניט אויפרעגען זיך) מהעלמות והסתרים שישנם לפי שעה בעניני המסחר, דאין זה אלא לשעה קלה. והטעם על זה, הרי אמרו רז"ל בהדי כבשי דרחמנא למה לך. ואפשר שהכוונה בזה כדי שישלח מברק שעלה ברצונו וחפצו הטוב ליתן סכום גדול על דעתי, ובכגון דא טוב יותר לקבוע הסכום, בכדי שלא יהי' ספק לשני הצדדים, כי הרי אפשר שככל שירבה ליתן יאמרו שאין זה סכום גדול בערכו, ובענינים של צדקה יש להזהר ככל האפשרי ולא לומר גדול סתם, בטח יפרש ויפרט בהזדמנות הקרובה.

בודאי שומר הוראות הרופאים ככל שיאמרו אליו, ואמרה תורתנו הק' תורת חיים שהיא נותנת רשות (שפירושו גם כן כח) לרופא לרפאות.
