Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of the forty-third day of the Omer* (see note 1) and the one that preceded it. You discuss the situation of the Yeshivah* and tell me that, in your opinion and that of several chassidim* of your city, it is not possible at the present time to bring a young man from the United States, especially since he would need to be married (see note 2). Indeed, there is no reason to send a bachelor, who must occupy himself with finding a match or will very soon do so.

Nevertheless, the essential point is missing from your letter. This reminds me of the explanation in Chassidus* noting that the Prohibitions are linked to the Yud* and the Hei* (see note 3), while the Injunctions depend on the Vav* and the Hei* (see note 4). Despite this, the Injunctions override the Prohibitions, as is emphasized at the beginning of Iggeres HaKodesh* of the Alter Rebbe*, in Likkutei Torah*, Bamidbar, at the end of Parshas* Balak, Vayikra, page 45c, and Shir HaShirim*, page 48d.

In a pleasant manner, one could say that even if the world had not been created (see note 5), the Injunctions would nevertheless have had to be fulfilled. This is not the case for the Prohibitions.

I mean that you do not write to me who will replace this young man who was supposed to come from the United States. Indeed, such activities are indispensable. I therefore do not raise an objection. I emphasize once more that the chassidim* on the spot can not only replace him — so that what he was supposed to do is not lacking — but moreover, surpass what he could have accomplished.

It is precisely for this reason that you have not yet found the means to bring this young man. His presence is therefore not indispensable for the development of the Yeshivah*. And everything depends on the will of each of the chassidim* and of all of them together. I await your good news.

With my blessing,
