To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Avraham (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letters of 27 Iyar* and 3 Sivan. May Hashem soon grant me the merit of learning not only that my letter was duly received and that words of encouragement were spoken, but also that concrete action was taken. For the Mishnah* states that "the deed is the essential thing, not the theory."

You know the saying of the Rashbatz* (see note 2), which my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, related to us several times, regarding one who possesses profound knowledge of Chassidus* but does not use it to pray with fervor. Now, he was referring to someone who truly possesses such knowledge and indeed prays in the proper manner, yet does not draw upon all of his knowledge. The Rashbatz* said of this: "Clouds are carried by the wind, but there is no rain."

It is unnecessary to note that he was alluding to the growth of the harvest and the fruits, which depend precisely on the rain. You must understand what this means. I therefore await good and detailed news. May Hashem grant that it reach me soon.

On the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*, may Hashem grant us the merit, together with all of Israel, in accordance with the formulation of our master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, to receive the Torah* with joy and in an inward manner.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ז אייר וג' סיון, הנה יהי רצון שבקרוב ממש אזכה להתבשר לא רק ע"ד קבלת מכתבי וע"ד דבור דברי התעוררות, אלא על ענינים של פועל וכמאמר המשנה לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה, וידוע פתגם הרשב"ץ ששמענוהו איזה פעמים מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בהנוגע לציור של חסיד משכיל ואינו עובד, וכמובן היתה הכוונה משכיל כדבעי ואינו עובד לא ח"ו כפשוטו אלא שלא בערך ההשכלה, ומרגלא בפומי' דרשב"ץ על זה, נשיאים ורוח וגשם אין, ואין זקוקים לביאור שהכוונה הוא בצמיחת התבואה והפירות התלוים בגשם דוקא, וק"ל. ואחכה לבשו"ט ומפורטות, ויה"ר שיהי' בעגלא דידן.

ולקראת חג השבועות הבע"ל, הנה בלשון הרב הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר יה"ר שנזכה בתכ"י לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות.
