Greetings and blessings,
According to a well-known saying, Yeshivah* educators must devote themselves to the students, and not the reverse. This means that every doubt must be interpreted in the most favorable light for the students, without being overly concerned about the good reputation of the educators and those who make the decisions.
In a certain sense, this involves a form of self-sacrifice. But at the present time, this is expected of us as well. Chassidus* emphasizes that one must give of one's soul, not of one's body. One must therefore relinquish one's own good — including one's true good, that which belongs to the domain of holiness — for the sake of one's fellow, and how much more so for the sake of a community.
You know the saying of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, who was asked what Chassidus* contributed. He replied that its purpose is to help others, even at the cost of one's own good. He was asked what source in the revealed part of the Torah* proves this. He cited the tractate Niddah* 17a, according to which "one who burns them (see note 1) is a chassid* (see note 2)." Consult what the Tosafos* say on this subject.
The thoughts of a person's heart are focused on the fact that we are approaching the time of the Giving of the Torah* (see note 3). Now, the One Who gave it did not accept the elders (see note 4) as guarantors, but only the children (see note 5). You must understand what I mean.
You know the commentary that the Arizal* gives on the verse "These days are remembered and relived." When they are "remembered," they are indeed "relived," and they unfold again as they did the first time. May Hashem grant that we receive good news regarding all of this.
With my respects and blessing, in accordance with the formulation of our master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, to receive the Torah* with joy and in an inward manner,
