To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav* Yonah (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 5 Iyar*.

I am surprised to note that you say nothing about your communal activities, about which I inquire and which I mention in the letter I addressed to you. I hope that you will supplement all of this in your next letter.

The request for a blessing enclosed with your letter will be read, without making a vow, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us.

With my blessing to receive the Torah* with joy and in a profound manner (see note 2),

P.S.: You are no doubt aware of what happened at Kfar Chabad*, in the Holy Land (see note 3). On this occasion, an effort is currently being made on behalf of the vocational school and the agricultural school, in which this attack unfortunately took place.

According to the explanation of the Alter Rebbe* (see note 4), in such a place the Attribute of Mercy is revealed — far greater than that of goodness which precedes it — an inheritance without limit, extending from one extreme to the other. I have therefore transmitted your check as a first payment for this purpose.

May Hashem* grant that you will soon make a large addition to this contribution. Your children will do the same, in a generous manner. In this way, you will broaden the blessings and success granted by Hashem* for good health, material abundance, in peace and with breadth of spirit.

I await from you good news of everything that has been said.
