Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you write that you have been able to observe Divine Providence (see note 1). But what can one do? The help of Hashem* remains necessary for praying with fervor (see note 2).

You know the statement of our Sages* that "one who seeks to purify himself is assisted." Conversely, "one who says 'I made no effort and I found success' — do not believe him." Everything therefore depends on you. If you invest your efforts in this area in the fitting manner, the promise of our holy Torah*, the Torah* of life, will be fulfilled: "You have made effort and you have found success."

Nevertheless, to obtain concrete success here below, one must give Tzedakah* to one's fellow — not only financially, but also by exerting a positive influence upon him, drawing him closer to the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. In this way, Hashem* grants success to the one who makes the effort. Indeed, He acts "measure for measure" (see note 3), but in vastly increased proportion.

As you requested, I have mentioned the names of all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that they obtain the satisfaction of their needs. May Hashem* grant that you meet with success in this regard. For this, you will intensify your study of the Torah* and your practice of the Mitzvos* in the best manner. You will also influence your surroundings in this direction.

במענה על מכתבו בו כותב אשר ראה השגחה פרטית, אבל מה יעשה וצריך הוא לסייעתא דשמיא לעבודת התפלה וכו'

כבר ידוע פסק רז"ל הבא לטהר מסייעין לו, ולאידך גיסא לא יגעת ומצאת אל תאמין, ולכן בידו הדבר תלוי, ואם יתייגע בזה כפי כחו, הבטיחתנו תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, יגעת ומצאת, אלא שבכדי להמשיך ההצלחה בפועל ולמטה, צריך לתת צדקה להזולת לא רק צדקה בממון אלא צדקה בהשפעה טובה לקרבו לתורה ומצות שעל ידי זה מתרבה ההצלחה שמלמעלה בענינים אלו של המשתדל כיון שמדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה (אלא שכמה פעמים ככה).

כבקשתו הזכרתי את כל אלה שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להמצטרך להם, ויה"ר שיבשר טוב בזה ושהוסיף בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצות בהידור ומשפיע גם בסביבתו בכיוון זה.
